Holocaust Memorial Day

A group of Year 5 children from TF6 and TF7, Tasneen, Gerald, Sabaahat, Bhanuka and Maryan represented Salisbury Primary School at the Holocaust Memorial Day event at Stratford Old Town Hall on Wednesday 27th January 2016.

The children listened to a moving testimony by Holocaust survivor, Harry Bibring, who spoke about his childhood in Vienna at the time of the Anschluss, Hitler’s annexation of Austria in 1938. They also heard Newham’s ECAM Stars orchestra and choir perform a specially composed piece “Don’t Stand By” – this year’s Holocaust Day message. This was followed by a candle lighting ceremony led by Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham and Alex Jarrett, Young Mayors of Newham.
